As for most of us aspiring golfers, the mystery of mastering the little white ball can only be revealed by the gurus of swing them selves. Now let’s add a little science, psychology and great updated product ID and they have us by the balls as usual. BXC helped the Odyssey team layout a nice little product brochure that was recently adapted to this smart online microsite that can be viewed on there current website.

BXC-look-and-feel-brand-identity

BXC is proud to announce the inclusion into the new book from Rockport Publishing, Brand Identity Essentials. The work included is not work we produced for our clients but BXC’s own brand identity system. Along side our work are other firms such as Siegel + Gale, Pentagram, and others (this just means our rates go up).

Publishers excerpt:

Identity is often (mistakenly) used interchangeably with logo, but an organization’s identity encompasses much more than its logo. The organization’s name is equally as important as the picture used to represent it. Other elements, such as the color of a company’s mailing envelopes or the music customers hear while on hold on the telephone, are elements of the identity. Most of the logos we admire more often than not are part of a well-designed system. In such a system, the application of the logo (as well as these other elements) has been as carefully considered as the logo itself.

An exploration of identities without including logos would be like a tour of France without a stop in Paris. Including a discussion of brands and how they relate to identities is like connecting the trip to the culture of Western Europe. It puts it all in context.

It might help to think of it this way: The logo is a picture; the complementary elements and application decisions form a program; and the perception created by the picture and the program form the visual center of the brand.

The structure of the book logically flows from this evolution. We explore each “Essential” as it relates to graphic identity (in a word, logos). Then, we follow some of the logos we dissect through their applications as part of successful identity programs. Finally, we discuss the ways design (and designers) can influence customer perceptions through brand identity.

Last Fall Hasbro teamed up with the brand design firm BXC, located Orange County, California, to help collaborate and redesign their recently revamped Bop-It! game’s packaging and logo. Almost a year later we’re finally seeing the fruit of our labors hitting national television and national retail. Bop-It! has launched at the TIA international toy fair at Javits Center in NY last spring and more recently at the Teen Choice Awards this fall. Wow this is big! The pretty TV spot shown above was created by their agency of record in NYC – Uproar.

I was walking through Target yesterday and kept hearing Moms and kids playing this thing in the store. I think this will be (IS) one of the hottest games this year!

BXC has finally completed the branding of a new Hasbro game hitting retail this summer. CUPONK is skill game based on extreme cup pong. It’s pretty simple. A ball and a cup. But in no way easy.  In BXC and Hasbro style CUPONK has been taken to a new level of imagination, skill and gameplay. There are playing card point-based tricks, sound effects and unique collectable art on each cup using skate, snow, surf and street artists from around the world. BXC was responsible for helping define the brand DNA, logo, packaging, taglines, and product graphics and illustration art direction and worked hand in hand with the Hasbro creative team. Hasbro will be releasing several unique and collectable designs by fall. The TV spot here was created by Hasbro agency of record and directed by some famous skate punk. We’ll add more artists credits when we get more info.

“…the artwork, from the graphics on the cards and the sides of the cups to the store packaging itself is inventive and doesn’t hold back in style or attitude.”  K. Able – CTV’s TechLife

Illustrators on this project launch included Bethany Ng bethanyng.com, Chris Philpot chrisphilpot.com, David Wong davidcwongart.com and Travis Pitts zom-bot.com.

I just got back from Interbike in Vegas. This is evidence of the Podium water bottle product display carnage at the Camelbak booth. Apparently their new bottles (that we did the graphics for!) were the hottest item (water bottle) at the show. Everyone that walked by their booth lifted a sample and left the poor product managers and sales reps running around confiscating and rebuilding the display each day. By day 3 most had given up (as seen here). I think this is a good sign for what may happen at retail next year, except fort the shoplifting part.

Here are the renderings before final production. They look way better in real life. We should see these in stores this coming winter Holiday season.
